Workshop 4 – Dumpster Dig!

Like muddy wombles, archaeologists prize rubbish, but for them it’s because these cast-off clues offer unique perspectives on the past, unbiased by the biases of consciously crafted books, buildings or burials. Dumpster Dig explores what archaeologists can learn from analysing rubbish spanning a thousand years from today to the Norman Conquest, via Victorian families and medieval farmers.

It’s a fun way to learn about the importance of the lost and forgotten, while also developing skills in paying attention to detail, creative thinking and interpreting evidence – and a chance to think about what your rubbish says about you!
