Dig School Workshops – Introduction

Each of our 20 archaeology-themed Dig School workshops are now live. Each workshop comes with a presentation video to guide workshop leads through the activity, a workbook and teacher guidance document, plus a short intro video from Professor Carenza Lewis, plus additional support material and activities where appropriate. We have also be provided free access to thematically linked articles from the CBA’s British Archaeology magazine.

Links to the workshops can be found on the homepage menu list.

To make the most of each workshop please follow the instructions below:

Before the workshop:

  • Download the presentation video, workbook and teacher’s guidance notes.
  • Watch the presentation video while reading the teacher’s guidance notes and looking at the workbook, so you can see how the workshop will run
  • Print off paper copies of the workbook, so each student has their own copy to work through or ask them to download the online version.
  • Join the Dig School Facebook group. This is a space for teachers and students to ask questions and connect with other Dig School participants.

During the workshop:

  • At the beginning of the workshop note down the students’ responses to the before questions in the teacher guidance notes.
  • Follow the teacher’s guidance notes to deliver the workshop.
  • At the end of the workshop, note down the students’ responses to the after questions in the teacher guidance notes.

After the workshop:

  • Complete the evaluation form – this will be a link in the session resources
  • Email or share in the Facebook group any photos we can use to show others what the workshops are like (with permission to use them).
  • Email or share on the Facebook group any comments you have about the workshop – we want to make Dig School as good as possible, so your feedback will be very welcome.

We hope you and your students enjoy the workshops! You can follow Dig School on Facebook and Twitter #DigSchool
